We’ve all been there….you have a killer gravy bubbling on the stove, or a great pot of soup waiting to have grilled cheese dipped into it, and its just not thick enough. Its too late to add cornstarch or flour, and besides, the lumps that will likely happen are just not worth it. What to do?
Use instant mashed potatoes! Just sprinkle a spoonful in (remember, you can always add but you can never subtract), stir in, and it should thicken up. Not thick enough? Wait a minute or so, and then add some more. Instant potatoes will absorb water and thicken, so it might take a minute or two to achieve maximum thickening ability.
Bonus, instant potatoes have no flavor, so the flavor of your dish won’t be affected!
