If you are anything like me, it seems as if you are inundated with recipes on Facebook, and they all look too good to not try. But do they work as promised? I have had more than one turn into a complete disaster that was a waste of ingredients and money. So I have decided to take one for the team (ha!) and try out the randomness I see online and report back.
This weekend, I gave the ‘Snickers Rice Krispie Treats’ recipe a shot. Overall, pretty tasty, but a few notes below on how to make this treat even better! And yes, those are red, white, and blue Rice Krispies in the photo….I am a sucker for cereal on clearance at Target!

- We are a Rice Krispie treats family, so, I made a bit more of the crispy bottom. This did not hurt the recipe one bit. I also would recommend a teaspoon of vanilla in the melted marshmallow mixture just to give it an extra kick of flavor.
- The recipe calls for cream to melt with the caramels. If you have it on hand, great, but don’t buy it just for this…a tablespoon of milk or even water works just as well. Yes, the cream makes it richer, but its not 100% necessary.
- Speaking of caramel, the recipe calls for 16 oz of caramel. More is always better, but I was able to make it work with 11 oz of Milk Maid Caramel bits.3. The recipe called for milk chocolate chips and salted peanuts, which we did not have on hand. While it was good with semi-sweet chips and Spanish peanuts, it was not the same. Next time, we will buy the correct stuff!
